Darren Christopher Womack, 25, and his landlord,
James Ivon Compton, were fighting, investigators said, and Womack
was shot to death. Compton was hospitalized with injuries from the fight, but
Capt. Keith Dunagan of the Wythe County Sheriff's Office said he is expected to
be released soon and to be available to answer investigators' questions. Womack
was shot twice with a semiautomatic pistol, once in the face and once in the
chest. The chest wound was fatal, Dunagan said. The results of the investigation
will be turned over to Commonwealth's Attorney Keith Blankenship, who will
decide whether any charges should be filed.

badly to tell investigators what happened, King said. No charges had been placed
