A. A. Womack, 42, Accident Victim, Succumbs Monday Injuries received in an accident near Winnfield Thursday afternoon at about 5 o'clock, were fatal to A. A. Womack, about 42 years of age, of Jonesboro, who died at the Baptist Hospital in Alexandria Monday morning. He suffered a brain concussion, and it was reported that one of his ribs pierced his lungs. He never regained consciousness. Mr. Womack lost control of his 1942 Ford while driving across the dike at Port de Luce as he was enroute from Winnfield to Jonesboro during a heavy rain. It is believed that the water, which had collected on the highway, splashed on the windshield and blinded him. His car ran off the highway and crashed into a telephone pole before landing in a nearby sluice. A group of seismograph workers rescued Mr. Womack from the water, and summoned an ambulance which carried the injured man to the Mosley Clinic in Winnfield. He was later carried to the Baptist Hospital in Alexandria where he died. Funeral services were held for Mr. Womack Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the high school auditorium in Jonesboro and burial was in the Jonesboro Cemetery. He was owner of the Fort Motor Company of Jonesboro. Mr. Womack is survived by his wife, May Womack, of Jonesboro; two sons, Thomas Womack of the U. S. Navy, serving somewhere in the Pacific; and James Louis Womack of Jonesboro; one daughter, Anne Womack of Jonesboro; and three brothers, two of whom reside in Jonesboro and one in Texas.

* CLAYTON HIRAM WOMACK

Lightning Kills Clayton Womack Tuesday Afternoon Funeral Services Held At Harmony Grove Church Wednesday Afternoon An electrical storm last Tuesday afternoon, caused the death of Clayton Womack, 21 year old youth of the Gaars Mill Community. Young Womack, who was working in the field, came in the house during the storm. His mother warned him to get out of the swing on the front porch when it was lightning, and to come in the house. Being wet with perspiration, he lathered his face and hands and stooped under a metal gutter to let the water wash the soap off his face. Lightning struck the house setting it on fire. The water from the gutter conveyed the lightning to Womack's body, causing instant death. He was found in the stooped position. The lightning had struck him on the back of the neck, where the water was running on him and had gone down one side of his back to the ground. Womack was an outstanding youth of his community. He graduated from the Gaars Mill High School this year. He took a leading part in all club work and organizations in his school and church. As a community leader he attended the 4-H Camp at Camp Mary Mims last week. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Jack Womack, three sisters and five brothers.
